The ‘mini Stonehenge’ in the north of England located just 30 minutes | Travel News | Travel
This pretty UK city in Yorkshire is less than an hour away from an unusual landmark similar to the famous Stonehenge.
Druids Temple is 30 minutes away from Ripon and both places are great for an autumn day out if you’re looking to enjoy a weekend away before winter kicks in.
Near Druids Temple, there are woodland walks and bike tracks for those wanting to adventure in the outdoors.
The structure is nearly 200 years old, you can find it near the village of Ilton, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, North Yorkshire.
Built in the 1800s, it offers visitors a unique blend of history and natural beauty in a remote woodland setting.
One visitor on Tripadvisor said: “Could spend the better part of a day here and not be bored especially in nice weather. Start by parking in the car park down at the tea rooms. Don some good footwear and walk back up through the car park, turn left up the slight hill and enter the woods. There is another car park there if you’re not planning for tea and cake after!
“Then hit the explore button! The ruins are great, all folly of course, but the kids (ages 4-11) all loved it. The surrounding woodland makes for a great adventure with scenic pictures to keep the photo minded very busy indeed! Lots of big rocks for climbing and the dogs loved it too.
“Head back for tea and cake and a beautiful little play park with a real working ye olde style hand pump for water play. They even have lots of stay overnight options which we intend to make use of next time!”
The nearby city of Ripon is known for its pristine cathedral, rich history and impressive architecture – it’s a great place to visit in the area.
Take a walk along Ripon canal which is loved by locals and tourists alike. One visitor on Tripadvisor said: “We were staying in Ripon one showery weekend! It was so nice to dodge the showers for an hour, and have a walk down the canal side. So relaxing, and to see some canal boats going past us, made it even more rewarding.”
Finally, seeing the cathedral is a must-do – it traces back to 672AD and is a popular tourist attraction in the city.
Its beautiful architecture and colourful stained glass windows won’t disappoint.
